Junior Series Begins this Weekend

jsra-logo-transThe 2018/2019 JSRA Country Super Series will fire into action at Moora Speedway on Saturday night for the first time of the season.

With three rounds of the JSRA Metropolitan Series already taking place at Ellenbrook, Bunbury and the Perth Motorplex; the Junior Sedan racing has already proven to be of the highest quality.

With the first country event of the season attracting a healthy 25 nominations, it promises to be an awesome night of Junior Sedan action.

Goldfield’s racer Chloe Dellar will headline a small field of New Star Junior Sedan competitors, with newcomers Brock Lake, Deagan McNally, Matilda Hull and Luke Martin also in the field. Jade McKeagg is a late nomination for the event and will look to put a challenge up to her fellow racers.

In the Top Star ranks, a range of drivers could find themselves on the top step of the podium come the end of the twenty-lap feature race on Saturday night. Blake Webb and Darryl George will be the early favourites, having each finished on the podium a number of times already this summer season.

Kurtis Blackburn, on board the ex-Jackson Derrick Hyundai Excel has taken like a duck to water to his new car. Blackburn has already found himself at the pointy end of the field at the Perth Motorplex a few weeks ago, before mechanical dramas forced his retirement.

Also in the field, is the ever-travelling Dellar duo, of brothers Lachlan and Kayne Dellar, along with a whole swag of mid-west racers including Mitchell Baker, Rohan Thomas, Ahryn Curtin and Rory Elsum-Beaumont. Home town hero Taj Vanzetti will be the only local hope in the field and will no doubt have the support of the crowd this weekend.

JSRA Series’ regulars Brody Day, Jasmine Arnold, Bryden Southwell and Izak Davies will also look to put up a challenge to their rivals, as will Bunbury racer Brandon Buszan.

Be sure you don’t miss any of the action and get yourself to Moora Speedway this Saturday night, with racing getting underway from 6pm.

JSRA Fires Into Action!

jsra-logo-transThe Junior Speedway Racing Association of Western Australia will fire into action this weekend for the first time in the 2018/2019 summer speedway season.

Ellenbrook Speedway will host Round One of the JSRA Metropolitan Series this weekend in conjunction with their Grand Final, twilight race meeting.

Lady racers Elysha Cooper and Erika Vary have been the drivers to beat at Ellenbrook throughout the Winter months and will once again battle it out for the final victory of the Ellenbrook season. Tylah Steele has had a consistent Winter season and continues to develop as an up and coming star, as she looks to follow in the footsteps of older brother Jesse.

Olivia Earle and Joshua Wardley have only raced a handful of meetings and continue to improve with every outing and will once again look to gain some valuable track time this weekend, while sisters Olivia and Lexi Smith will also join the field.

Blake Iwanow headlines the Top Star Junior Sedan field, having dominated this season at Ellenbrook. Not only has Iwanow proven difficult to beat around the Ellenbrook venue, he has also shown his strength against some of Australia’s best, qualifying third for the A Main of the Australian Junior Sedan Title in Darwin and finishing second at the Northern Territory Junior Sedan Title in Katherine earlier this year.

Looking to take the top step this weekend, will be Blake Webb, who had an ultra-consistent 2017/2018 speedway season. Webb has finished behind Iwanow a number of times during the winter months, will look to go one better, though will have tough competition from regular Ellenbrook racers Darryl George, Alex Swift, Jesse Steele, Ethan Cooper and Beau Oldfield.

Bryden Southwell, Izak Davies and Jasmine Arnold will look to gain some valuable JSRA season points at the opening round of the Metropolitan Series this weekend, as they look forward to a big summer speedway season of Junior Sedan racing throughout Western Australia.

Racing gets underway from 3pm this Saturday at Ellenbrook Speedway, which will support the opening rounds of the 360 Power Series and Late Model Pro Dirt Series.

Juniors Save the Best Until Last

jsra-logo-transThe final round of the JSRA Country Super Series at Pithara Speedway, which doubled at the Fab Martinelli Cup has seen one of the best feature races of the season, as drivers battled it out for all important series points.

The New Star division was down on numbers, though saw some brilliant racing, with Kayne Dellar yet again showing strong form, winning three of the four races, including the final. Jhy Pack was the only driver that would defeat Dellar in the final heat of the day. Montana Pack had another consistent afternoon, finishing in the top three in each of her races. Jade McKeagg and Jasmine Arnold also had an exciting battle throughout the day, jostling for positions in each race.

In the twelve lap final, Kayne Dellar led from start to finish, even after a couple of stoppages. Jhy Pack tried his best to get around sister Montana, although wasn’t able to do so. Jasmine Arnold and Jade McKeagg had a great battle throughout the race, until Arnold was told to sit on the infield for causing two stoppages. When it came to the final lap, Dellar would hold on to win another feature race ahead of Montana and Jhy Pack and Jade McKeagg.

The racing from the Top Stars was sensational, with a number of drivers in with a chance of winning at the end of the day. Luke Malcolm came out all guns blazing, rounding up half the field in half a lap to claim the first heat of the afternoon. Seth Hinsey and Jackson Derrick would start from position nine and ten to finish in the top 3.

Luke Malcolm would again win the second heat of the day in fine form, defeating Blake Fletcher and Seth Hinsey. Jackson Derrick would lead comfortably at the beginning of the race, until mechanical dramas would see him fall to the rear of the field.

With one heat remaining for the series, Jackson Derrick needed a strong finish to earn good points ahead of the twenty lap final. The Bullsbrook based driver did just that and would win ahead of Izak Davies and Nikita Donohoe. Luke Malcolm would finish fourth, with top points earning him pole position for the final.

Come the twenty lap final, Malcolm’s Lancer would fail to fire, ending his race before it even started. This would elevate Seth Hinsey to pole position, alongside Jackson Derrick. With the initial start being aborted, Seth Hinsey would again lead into the first turn, with all drivers looking to move quickly towards the front. Lachlan Dellar would take up second position, as Izak Davies sat in third.

The yellow lights would soon come on, as Tanika Webb retired from the event after contact with Brock Reid. Izak Davies was starting to feel the pressure with Blake Webb trying everything to get past. Nikita Donohoe and Brody Day also started to buy into this battle, as Jackson Derrick fell back through the field and would ultimately retire with mechanical dramas.

As Seth Hinsey continued to lead with a comfortable margin, trouble would strike with a few laps remaining, blowing a front right tyre and giving Lachlan Dellar an easy lead. Hinsey would return to the pits, as the battle for second starting to intensify. Davies was having the drive of his life, as he continued to hold off Blake Webb, Nikita Donohoe and Brody Day. This battle would go right down down to the line, as the four drivers crossed the line in succession.

Lachlan Dellar would take the final round of the series, as Izak Davies narrowly defeated Nikita Donohoe, Blake Webb and Brody Day. This was no doubt one of the best feature races of the JSRA season, with Davies and Donohoe having the best races of their junior careers.

Attention will now turn to the final round of the JSRA Metropolitan Series to be held at Ellenbrook Speedway next Sunday. Racing will get underway from 11am and will be the last chance for drivers to earn some all important Metro Series and Overall JSRA Points.

Country Super Series Concludes in Pithara

jsra-logo-transThe final round of the 2017/2018 JSRA Country Super Series heads to Pithara Speedway this Saturday with small, yet quality fields entered for the event which doubles as the annual Fab Martinelli Cup.

In the New Star division, Kayne Dellar will look to finish the country super series off with a bang, as he looks to claim his fifth round victory for the season. Kayne’s sister Chloe will also be in the field and will be another one to watch, as she continues to get quicker with every outing.

As always, you can never discount the Pack siblings of Jhy and Montana, who will look to claim the bragging rights at the end of the season. Jasmine Arnold will also be in the field and is starting to come to grips with her new Daihatsu Charade and will eagerly wanting to finish the season off in a strong fashion.

The Top Star field, although smaller than hoped, is full of quality drivers that will be looking to secure the final round win of the series. Jackson Derrick and Luke Malcolm, who both finished on the podium at the recent WA Junior Sedan Title in Moora, will be looking to back this up with a win. They will have stiff competition including Blake Webb who will look to finish on the podium yet again for the sixth of seven rounds this season.

Blake Fletcher, Lachlan Dellar and Seth Hinsey will also be looking to finish their season off strong, having both finished the A Main at the WA Junior Sedan Title. Fletcher, who only just missed the podium in Moora, has already secured two round wins this season and will be hoping for a third.

Lady racers Nikita Donohoe and Tanika Webb will also return to the track this weekend for the final round of the series, as will Brody Day and Izak Davies. Geraldton’s Brock Reid is also nominated for the event and will look for a positive result, racing against some of WA’s best junior racers.

Racing gets underway from 1pm on Saturday afternoon, so make sure you head along to Pithara Speedway to watch some great junior sedan action.

Thank you once again to Phil and Jo from Pithara Speedway for supporting the JSRA and holding the Fab Martinelli Cup yet again.

Penultimate Round Heads for Manjimup

jsra-logo-transRound 6 of the JSRA Country Super Series heads to Southern Forest Machinery Raceway in Manjimup this weekend. The event will be the penultimate round of the series, with just one round to follow at Pithara Speedway.

Heading the New Star field will be Kalgoorlie’s Kayne Dellar, who has been the driver to beat all season. The Pack duo of Jhy and Montana have always been quick and will hope to once again be at the front of the field. All of these drivers will be looking to earn some valuable points ahead of the final round of the series.

A whole swag of local drivers will also be in the field and will be hard to beat on their home track including Tobi Gunson and Ellie Sing. Bunbury’s Matthew Thomson is always one to watch in his Hyundai Excel, which is always running at the front of the field.

A small, yet quality field of Top Star drivers are entered, with the ultra consistent Blake Webb the one to beat this weekend. Webb who has finished on the podium at all but one round of the series so far will be looking to once again earn some valuable points in Manjimup this weekend. Blake Fletcher, the winner of the last round of the series will be eager to return to the top step, with his Daihatsu Charade looking very quick in recent weeks.

Hyundai trio of Bryden Southwell, Lachlan Dellar and Izzac Delaporte will also be very quick on the wide open spaces of Southern Forest Machinery Raceway. Don’t forget to keep an eye on local star Jonty Barnsby, who will look to use his home track knowledge to get the upper hand on his opponents.

Racing gets underway from 6pm this Saturday night, with three rounds and a final for every driver.

Kiwi Claims Australasian Championship

jsra-logo-transNew Zealand’s Chris Kernohan has surprised everyone by winning the 2018 Webbcrete Australasian Junior Sedan Championship, going through the heats and final undefeated.

To begin the night, the six New Zealand racers had an opportunity to test out the new track with some hot laps, before they had an all Team New Zealand race. This would be another interesting battle, with a number of drivers battling it out for position. Chris Kernohan would fail to finish with some mechanical dramas, but would redeem this later in the night. Samuel Ashton would drive a brilliant race to defeat Jayden Fraser and Alana Buckthought.

When it came to the Australasian Championship heats, some brilliant racing was witnessed. Luke Malcolm would claim the first heat of the night in style, before New Zealand would get their first heat win against the Aussies in the hands of Chris Kernohan. Geraldton’s Bradley Short would then win the third heat of the night.

Come round two of the heat racing, Jorj Park and Zac Minshull would add their names to the winners list, while Kerohan would once again win his heat, defeating Bradley Short.

Kalgoorlie’s Dylan Parkes would win the seventh heat of the night, ahead of Jackson Derrick and Blake Webb who returned after a hit with the concrete wall in Esperance last weekend. Chris Kernohan would win heat eight, gaining the maximum 108 points and earning himself pole position for the twenty lap A Main. Jorj Park would also win his second heat of the night, claiming the lucky last of the evening.

With sixteen automatic qualifiers going straight into the A Main, a field of nine were to start the B Main. Jade McKeagg would display amazing sportsmanship, giving up her car for Kiwi Alana Buckthought to drive, after her car expired. With four to transfer to the A Main, a number of drivers fought hard to move through to the next final. Taj Vanzetti drove a brilliant race to take the win ahead of Samuel Ashton, Alec Vanzetti and Mitchell Baker who narrowly defeat Alana Buckthought to move through to the A Main.

Come the twenty lap A Main, a stellar field of twenty of the best racers assembled into a four wide salute for the crowd, which looked simply awesome (a video will be posted to the JSRA Facebook Page). Chris Kernohan and Dylan Parkes would start from the front row, which was a fitting, as Kernohan was driving one of the Parkes Racing cars.

As the race got underway, the first to retire would be Jackson Derrick who went no where from the start and failed to complete a lap. Bradley Short would spin in turns three and four, which would bring on the yellow lights and a complete restart.

When the race restarted, a number of drivers were desperate to get to the front. Some contact would be made throughout the field, with a couple of cars hitting the back straight concrete wall, but bouncing off and resuming battle. For Ryan Marshall, this would signal the end of his Trans Tasman racing, suffering steering damage to the Swift Racing Daihatsu Charade. Joshua Ahead would soon retire from the event as well.

Out in front, Chris Kernohan had already opened a sizeable margin ahead of Zac Minshull, while Blake Webb, Luke Malcolm and Jorj Park raced hard for the minor places. Bradley Short after being sent to the rear of the field started to charge back through and in no time, was back in the top 10. A restart would be called when Jorj Park and Dylan Parkes would make contact on the front straight, which saw Dylan Parkes sent to the rear of the field.

Hayden Mortimer and Dylan Parkes would both retire soon after the race resumed. The battle for third continued with Blake Webb and Jorj Park fighting hard, as Luke Malcolm started to fall off the pace with dramas onboard his Mitsubishi Lancer. Bradley Short also started to by into the battle for third, with the three drivers racing within close proximity. This would soon end in tears, with contact down the back straight resulting in some damage to the front end of Blake Webb’s Daihatsu Charade, which saw him make contact with Bradley Short.

The red lights would come on, with concerns over Bradley Short and a possible injury. Luckily it was later confirmed that there was no major injury, which was great to hear. At this point, the race would be declared after 10 laps, which gave Chris Kernohan, the well deserved victory in his last race on Australian soil. Zac Minshull drove a brilliant race to finish second ahead of Jorj Park, Jayden Fraser and Corey Ameduri.

A big thank you must go to Jason Shannan Webb from Webbcrete for their much valued sponsorship of this weekend, along with the entire JSRA Committee who have worked overtime to ensure the last two weekends were a success.

Attention for the JSRA will now turn to Round 6 of the JSRA Country Super Series, which heads to Southern Forest Machinery Raceway, Manjimup on Saturday April 7th.
