Australasian Junior Champs This Weekend

jsra-logo-transThis weekend, the Central Midlands Speedway Association’s Moora Speedway will come alive with the 2018 Australasian Junior Sedan Championship, a precursor to the upcoming WA Junior Sedan Title at the same venue.

The international event has attracted a fine field of Junior Sedan drivers from all of WA, plus six of the best Ministock racers from different parts of New Zealand.

Headlining the nomination list this weekend are a number of drivers that have been towards the pointy end of Junior Sedan fields this season. Luke Malcolm, was super quick in Esperance last weekend and will be hoping for some luck to come his way in Moora this weekend. Luke’s close mates Blake Webb and Jackson Derrick have also experienced success this season and will no doubt be looking for some valuable track time at the Moora venue this weekend.

Midwest racer Bradley Short will also be an early favourite, as will Kalgoorlie’s Dylan Parkes. Although Parkes didn’t have the best of runs in Esperance last weekend, he will be sure to bounce back this weekend. Two drivers that you can never discount, are Broome racers Zac Minshull and Jorj Park. Both are extremely quick racers, that work their way to the front of the field this weekend.

This weekend, a number of drivers that you’d normally see in the New Star division, will race against the states best in this “all in” event. The leading driver would have to be Ellenbrook’s Beau Oldfield. With the racing gene well and truly infixed in this young racer, Oldfield has already achieved some major race victories and will be one to watch this weekend.

Leading the Kiwi charge will be Chris Kernohan. Chris won the all Kiwi race last weekend and will look to take it up to Australia’s best again this weekend, but will have Jayden Fraser and Ryan Marshall knocking on his heals. All three drivers were extremely quick in their first drives in Australian Junior Sedans last weekend, and will be be sure to watch.

Racing gets underway in Moora this Saturday night from 6pm, with nine qualifying heats ahead of the all important final. Make sure you don’t miss out on seeing Australia and New Zealand’s future stars of speedway, as they look to take victory in a rare International racing event.

If you cannot be at the event, the JSRA Facebook page has you covered, with full race results being uploaded to Facebook after each event.

Fletcher Fantastic, as Australia Claim Top Honours

jsra-logo-transBlake Fletcher has dominated the Junior Sedan proceedings this weekend at the McD Contracting, Esperance Speedway, winning Saturday’s Round 5 of the JSRA Country Super Series, along with Sunday’s Overall Top Star Points. To add to the excitement, the local driver, who was filling in as a reserve for Team Australia, also crossed the line first in the final of the Team Australia vs Team New Zealand, Teams Challenge.

The event which was proudly sponsored by Rohan and Raechel Fletcher from SOS Welding, attracted good nominations for both nights of racing. To add to the excitement, six of New Zealand’s best Ministock racers were in the field, driving totally unfamiliar cars for the first time. Ryan Marshall, Samuel Ashton, Caleb Ashton, Alana Buckthought, Jayden Fraser and Chris Kernohan took to Esperance Speedway for the first time in the Australia Junior Sedan and surprised many with their pace early in the night.

On Saturday, the battle for first position was on from the very beginning in the New Star division. Jhy Pack, Kayne Dellar, Brandon Buszan and Montana Pack were all in with a chance of taking out the fifth round of the JSRA Country Super Series. Kayne Dellar would claim the first heat, before Buszan claimed both the second and third.

Come feature time, the race was on from the drop of the green flag, however it was Buszan who made the best of the start and would ultimately open a handy buffer for the entire race, as the rest of the field battled for minor positions. Buszan would be too strong, defeating Kayne Dellar and Jhy Pack.

A field of nineteen Top Star Junior Sedans converged on the South-Coast venue, with the six kiwis in the field. Bryden Southwell, Seth Hinsey, Blake Fletcher and Jackson Derrick would each win a heat throughout the night, while Luke Malcolm would cross the line first on two separate occasions, earning some valuable series points.

With a full field for the twenty lap final, there was no doubt that any of the drivers were in with a chance of victory. Blake Fletcher and Luke Malcolm would start from the front row, however it was Bryden Southwell that would make a brilliant start, quickly moving into second. Blake Webb would also make a great jump, passing a number of cars heading into turn 1.

Bryden Southwell would soon find himself in the race lead, however this would be short lived as Luke Malcolm moved passed, into the lead. Southwell’s race would soon be over, as he suffered a flat front tyre. Blake Fletcher soon started to make his intentions on the race lead known, as he applied immense pressure to Luke Malcolm’s Mitsubishi Lancer.

The race would soon have its first major incident, with the leaders getting caught up with a lapped car. This would bring about a single file restart, where Malcolm and Fletcher would resume their battle along with Dylan Parkes. The action would soon heat up, as Malcolm and Fletcher both dived underneath a slower car, resulting in a yellow light. Officials relegated Malcolm to the rear, where he decided his race was run.

Blake Fletcher would then hold off a late race charge from Collie’s Seth Hinsey who was slowly but surely chipping his way through the field. As the field came to the chequered flag, Blake Fletcher would prove too strong for Seth Hinsey and Dylan Parkes. Blake Webb who has had a consistent season, finished fourth, the first time off the podium for the season.

Come Sunday night, the main event would be the Teams Challenge. With six Australians and six Kiwis set to do battle, the heat races got underway. Australian captain Blake Webb’s night and weekend would soon come to an abrupt end, hitting the term 4 concrete wall and pit gates, damaging his Daihatsu Charade significantly. His sister Tanika would then take his position in the team.

The Australian’s would win each of the heat races, giving them a choice of inside or outside pole position for the final. With grid positions set, the final got underway with great pace, which soon came to a spectacular end with Alex Swift hitting the concrete wall, before being collected by a number of cars, ending with the Fletcher owned Daihatsu Charade rolling down the back straight.

After a red light stoppage the race resumed, with NZ drivers Jayden Fraser and Chris Kernohan taking it right up to Australian’s Blake Fletcher and Hayden Moritmer. As the race continued, Australia’s hopes were looking dull, as Tanika Webb and Jackson Derrick both retired from the event. Their fellow Aussies were racing hard at the front of the field, with Luke Malcolm making it an Australia Top 3. Kiwi racers, Fraser and Kernohan also had a scary moment, making contact with each other and the concrete wall. They were able to continue, though needed to regroup to defeat the Aussies.

As the race came to an end, Blake Fletcher defeated Hayden Mortimer and Luke Malcolm, with Team New Zealand Captain, Chris Kernohan finishing fourth. Even with a number of drivers on the infield, the Australian’s had enough points to secure the Teams Challenge Title for 2018.

Earlier in the the night, Team New Zealand had their own race over 6 laps. It was hard fought, however Chris Kernohan would secure the bragging rights as top Kiwi, defeating Jayden Fraser and Ryan Marshall.

New Stars and Top Stars also competed throughout the night, with final positions being awarded on total points. The results were as follows:
New Stars
1st Jhy Pack – 128 points
2nd Kayne Dellar – 123 points
3rd Montana Pack – 97 points

Top Stars:
1st Blake Fletcher – 128 points
2nd Bryden Southwell – 118 points
3rd Izak Davies – 80 points

The JSRA cannot thank the entire JSRA committee, along with the Esperance Speedway Association for their assistance and cooperation organising and running this huge weekend. Another huge thank you also goes to the Fletcher Family from SOS Welding for their support of this round of the JSRA Country Super Series.

Attention will now turn towards the Australasian Championship this weekend at the Moora Speedway. Further details will be supplied later in the week.

Thank you to the team at SOS Welding for their support.

The Kiwis are Coming!

jsra-logo-transThis Saturday night, the McD Contracting Esperance Speedway will host Round 5 of the JSRA Country Super Series, which is proudly supported by SOS Welding. This will then be followed by the Team Australia vs Team New Zealand Teams Challenge on Sunday evening, with six of the best racers under 17 coming to Australian shores to try claim back to back bragging rights in the annual battle.

The Junior Speedway Racing Association (JSRA) committee, in conjunction with the Esperance Speedway Association have been working hard for months to plan this weekend’s International Race Meeting, which will see Australia and New Zealand’s best Junior racers going head to head.

All drivers with be battling it out for all important series points in Esperance this weekend, as we enter the second half of the season. With only two rounds to go at the conclusion of this weekend, it is important for all drivers to earn a quality bank of points.

Headlining the Top Star nomination list for Round 5 of the JSRA Country Super Series is the Webbcrete Daihatsu Charade of Blake Webb. Blake has had an outstanding season to this point, finishing on the podium more often than not. He will look to continue his good form this weekend in Esperance, no doubt hoping to finish on the podium yet again.

Joining Blake at the front of the field throughout the season to date has been Kalgoorlie’s Dylan Parkes. He will look to claim his third round of the series this weekend, after storming through the field to finish third at the last round in Collie.

A number of other drivers will also be in the mix, including Esperance racers Blake Fletcher and Hayden Mortimer, Jackson Derrick, Luke Malcolm and Seth Hinsey, all of whom have figured prominently in previous rounds this season.

In the New Stars, Kalgoorlie’s Kayne Dellar will be the favourite heading into this weekend, winning almost everything in the JSRA this season. Bunbury’s Brandon Buszan is a driver to watch though, getting quicker and quicker with every outing in his Hyundai Excel.

To add to the excitement of this weekend, we have six of the best Ministock racers from New Zealand looking to take it up to the Aussies in totally unfamiliar cars, on unfamiliar tracks with unfamiliar rules. Jonty Short, Ryan Marshall, Samuel Ashton, Chris Kernohan, Jayden Fraser and Alana Buckthought are eagerly awaiting their first laps in anger when they arrive in Esperance this weekend.

On Sunday, Team New Zealand will look to defeat Team Australia of Blake Webb, Alex Swift, Hayden Mortimer, Luke Malcolm, Jackson Derrick and Dylan Parkes in the Teams Challenge. Both teams have experienced success in recent years, however it has been the home team that has claimed the bragging rights on most occasions. Can Team New Zealand steal a victory on Australian soil, or will Team Australia be able to hold them off? Make sure you are trackside on Sunday to see who claims the win for 2018.

The JSRA must thank the Esperance Speedway Association for their assistance in making this weekend possible and cannot thank the Fletcher Family as SOS Welding for getting behind Round 5 of the JSRA County Super Series and the Teams Challenge.

Home Town Hero Wins!

jsra-logo-transThe JSRA Country Super Series headed to the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway last night for Round 4, which was proudly supported by Kay Chlo La’s Cleaning. Goldfields racer Kayne Dellar and Collie’s very own Seth Hinsey were victorious in the New Star and Top Star feature races on a night, which action packed.

Close to thirty Junior drivers from all over the state converged on the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway to score some valuable series points, as we move into the second half of the 2017/2018 season.

Bunbury’s Brandon Buszan started the night off recording a comfortable victory in heat one of the New Star Junior Sedans, while Jhy Pack was able to follow suit, winning the second heat. Mitchell Delaporte and Kayne Dellar would then become the third and fourth different heat winners, before Jhy Pack and Brandon Buszan would win their second heats of the night.

When it came to the A Main for the New Star Juniors, there were a number of drivers in with a chance of claiming the 15 lap race. The initial start would be short lived, as a number of drivers would find themselves facing the wrong way after some water was added to the track.

At the restart, Brandon Buszan who started on pole position at the first start would be sent to the rear for causing the stoppage. Matthew Thomson would make the best of the jump and would lead the field for the first part of the race. Kayne Dellar would fight hard with Jhy and Montana Pack, as Buszan started to charge back through the field.

Soon, Kayne Dellar would make a pass for the lead, moving past Matthew Thomson. Brandon Buszan would find himself in the top three before too long and would soon also pass Thomson for second. With the laps winding down, it look as if it would be a close finish, which it was indeed. Coming to the chequered flag, Kayne Dellar would hold on by the smallest of margins to defeat Brandon Buszan and Matthew Thomson.

A stellar field of Top Star Junior drivers were on hand for the fourth round of the series, where Esperance’s Blake Fletcher and home town hero, Seth Hinsey would win the first heats of the night. Good friends, Jackson Derrick and Blake Webb would then share a win each in heat three and four, before Blake Iwanow would drive a brilliant race to win the fifth heat of the night after starting from the rear of field all night. Blake Webb would be the only driver to record two separate heat race wins, claiming heat six.

Jackson Derrick and Blake Webb would start the 20 lap feature race from the front row, but it was Blake Iwanow and Jorj Park who would make the best of the start. As the field started to cross the start-finish line for the first time, their would be trouble as Blake Iwanow would find himself clobbering the main straight wall, ending his night.

A complete restart was ordered, where Jorj Park was ordered to the rear of the field. Blake Webb would lead the first into the first corner, where he would start to open up a sizeable lead ahead of Jackson Derrick and Seth Hinsey. Dylan Parkes would start to move through the field and started to make a challenge for third. Further back in the field, Blake Fletcher and Zac Minshull were having a great battle swapping positions on a number of occasions.

After a couple of restarts, Seth Hinsey managed to get past Jackson Derrick for second, as Dylan Parkes tried to make a pass for third. The battle for second was well and truly on in earnest, as Derrick continued to pressure Hinsey, waiting for one mistake. As Blake Webb continued to lead, he was soon caught by Seth Hinsey and Jackson Derrick. Hinsey applied immense pressure and was able to make a pass for the lead.

A four lap restart was ordered after a car spun in turns 1 and 2. When the green lights came back on, this would signal the end of Jackson Derrick’s race, who suffered a flat front right tyre while sitting in third position. Seth Hinsey would go on to record a popular victory in front of his home crowd, defeating Blake Webb and Dylan Parkes.

The JSRA must thank the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway for once again hosting a round of the JSRA Country Super Series, as well as the Dellar Family from Kay Chlo La’s Cleaning for their support of this round.

Attention for the JSRA will now turn to the March long weekend, which will see the Team Australia vs Team New Zealand Challenge, with six of the best Ministock racers coming to Australia soil to take on our very best. This will also see Round 5 of the JSRA Country Super Series, where all drivers will be looking to earn more valuable points.

jsra-logo-transRound 4 of the JSRA Country Super Series will head to the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway this weekend, with two brilliant fields of Junior Sedans ready for the action, proudly supported by the team at Kay Chlo La’s Cleaning.

The New Star Junior Sedans will be headed by the standout of the field this year, Kalgoorlie’s Kayne Dellar. Although Dellar has been in good form, he will have some stiff competition with the likes of Matthew Thomson, Jhy Pack, Brandon Buszan and sister Chloe Dellar in the field.

Riley Beaumont and Jae Noonan have also been very quick at the Collie venue in recent weeks and will be hoping for another successful outing against some great racers this Saturday night.

In the Top Stars, the invasion of Broome racers will take over the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway with Blake and Tanika Webb, Jorj Park and Zac Minshull nominated for the event. Luke Malcolm, Bryden Southwell and Lachlan Dellar have been very quick in recent rounds, as has Dylan Parkes, the winner of two rounds of the series so far. Expect each of these racers to figure predominantly in proceedings this weekend.

Local Southwest racers Seth Hinsey, Izzac Delaporte and Nathan Carter will also be in the field this Saturday evening and will no doubt be towards the pointy end of the field come the twenty-lap feature race.

We must thank everyone at Kay Chlo La’s Cleaning for their support of the JSRA this season and of Round 4 of the JSRA Country Super Series.

Be sure to be at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway this Saturday evening to witness some of the best Junior Sedan action in the country. Racing gets underway from 6pm, so make sure you’re trackside. If you cannot make it all results will be posted on the JSRA Facebook page.

Juniors Impress in Geraldton

jsra-logo-transKalgoorlie racer Dylan Parkes has again won what has to be the feature race of the season so far winning Round 3 of the JSRA Country Super Series at Geraldton City Speedway on Saturday evening.

The event which was proudly supported by Rick and Sara Musarra at CraneCorp Australia, attracted big numbers in both divisions as the series returned back to Geraldton.

The new stars provided some fast-passed racing from the get-go with Kayne Dellar starting his night in the best possible form by storming to a heat 1 victory, Kayne also went undefeated in all 3 heats of the night. Local driver Bradley chant would also record 2 heat wins across the night and another local driver Travis Strelley being the other driver to record a heat race victory.

Kayne Dellar and Bradley Chant would share the front row for the 15-lap feature race, with Kayne Dellar taking victory followed by Bradley Chant and Jhy Pack rounding out the podium. Other drivers to impress on the night were Jasmine Arnold who shows improvement week in week out.

It was clear from heat 1 the top stars meant business, on lap 2 of heat number 1 Joshua Ahearn became the first casualty of the night after slight contact with another car he would find himself upside down, he was ok and returned back to the track for his next heat. Dylan Parkes recorded his first victory of the night, as did local driver Bradley short in round 1 of the heats.

Blake Webb would record his first victory of the night in the second round of the heats as would Blake Fletcher. Brock Reid found himself on his side during the second round of the heats and somehow managed to save the car from rolling to safely land back on his wheels, this, however, would end his night. Nikita Donohoe would also find herself in trouble and had a nasty roll which would see her being taken to the hospital to get checked over. Luke Malcolm would also record a heat win in the final heats as Blake Webb picked up his second win for the evening.

Blake Webb and Luke Malcolm would start the 20-lap feature race from the front row, with cars going 3 and 4 wide into the first corner, with many positions changing as they completed their first lap. The only caution for the race would occur a few laps in when contact was made with a few drivers resulting in Bradley Short spinning to the infield.

The final 5 laps of the race where set to be a cracker with everyone on the edge of their seats as the leading groups came into heavy lapped traffic with Blake Webb racing under Dylan Parkes to take the lead with the pair of them trading places manoeuvring through the lapped cars, as Luke Malcolm, Blake Fletcher and Bryden Southwell would be having their own battle for the minor positions.

In the end Dylan Parkes would narrowly take the win over Blake Webb, as Luke Malcolm rounded out the podium, with Bryden Southwell and Blake Fletcher coming home closely in 4th and 5th.

Dylan Parkes Wins a Thriller

jsra-logo-transKalgoorlie racer, Dylan Parkes has won a thrilling Round 2 of the JSRA Country Super Series on home turf at Kalgoorlie International Speedway on Saturday evening.

The event, which was supported by Allen and Michelle Potts of Hydroblasting Kalgoorlie attracted two good fields of Junior Sedans, as the series returned to the Goldfields for another season.

Prior to the racing getting underway, a tribute to the late Anita Board who sadly lost her life in a Drag Racing accident was held, including a minute silence and a release of pink and purple balloons. Jasmine Arnold also paid tribute to Anita, with her right hand side panel in the “Pony Power” colours that Anita ran on her dragster. The JSRA would like to thank Kalgoorlie International Speedway for their organisation of this tribute, as well as all the junior drivers and families for taking part in a special event.

When the racing got underway, hometown heroes Lachlan Dellar and Dylan Parkes would claim the opening Top Star Junior Sedan heat races, before Blake Webb and Bryden Southwell would taste success in the second round of heats. Izzac Delaporte would narrowly defeat Luke Malcolm in their last heat of the night, while Blake Webb would be the only driver to win on two separate occasions.

Blake Webb and Bryden Southwell would start the twenty-lap final from the front row, with Webb getting the upper hand away from the line. An angry pack of drivers would race three and four wide throughout the first lap, with many positions changing as they exited the final corner for the first time. Luke Malcolm and Lachlan Dellar’s race would be over at this point as they retired to the infield.

Bryden Southwell who was having the night of his life would soon move through from third position to take the race lead and would create a handy buffer ahead of his closest rivals, who continued to battle hard for the minor positions. Jackson Derrick who started towards the tail end of the field also started to move through the field, battling it out with Nui Andrews and Jorj Park.

At the half way point, the yellow lights would come on after the race leader made contact with a lapped car. The race quickly got back underway, as Jackson Derrick still tried to get past Nui Andrews. Dylan Parkes now started to make his charge to the front of the field, as he sat in third position behind Bryden Southwell and Blake Webb.

After another stoppage, Bryden Southwell continued in the race lead, as Dylan Parkes now moved into position two. Izzac Delaporte started to loom large behind Blake Webb for third and fourth, as Dylan Parkes was now within striking distance of the race lead. With the white flag now on display, Dylan Parkes had one more opportunity to take the win and with one corner to go he timed his move to perfection to defeat Bryden Southwell by seven hundredths of a second. Blake Webb would hold on for position three ahead of Izzac Delaporte and Jackson Derrick who rounded out the top five.

A field of seven New Star Junior Sedans were also on hand and produced some fantastic racing, with Bunbury driver Brandon Buzsan recording the first two heat race victories comfortably. Kalgoorlie’s Kayne Dellar would take the last qualifying heat, before the fifteen lap final.

Dellar would make a great jump in the final and would lead comfortably in the initial part of the race, as Buzsan lost a lot of ground and had to work hard to get passed Jhy Pack for second. Behind them, the battle for the minor places between Montana Pack and Chloe Dellar was fierce, jostling for positions on a number of laps.

After a couple of restarts, Kayne Dellar would prove too strong once again to take out Round 2 of the JSRA Country Super Series ahead of Brandon Buzsan and Jhy Pack.

Goldfields Bound for JSRA

jsra-logo-icon-transRound 2 of the JSRA Country Super Series will head to Kalgoorlie International Speedway this Saturday Night, with two quality fields of Junior Sedans entered for the event.

This weekend’s racing will be proudly brought to you by a familiar name in Junior Sedan racing and the JSRA – Hydroblasting Kalgoorlie. Allen and Michelle Potts have once again committed to supporting Junior Sedan racing in Western Australia by sponsoring this round of the series.

A field of eight cars have entered in the New Star division, with local driver Kayne Dellar expected to figure prominently. The Pack duo of Jhy and Montana will no doubt be at the front of the field, when the JSRA hits the clay in the Goldfields this weekend.

Sixteen of the best Junior Sedan racers have also entered in the Top Stars, with Round 1 winner Jorj Park the favourite ahead of this round of the series. Local racers, Lachlan Dellar and Dylan Parkes will also be ones to watch, as they look to use their home track knowledge this Saturday evening.

Jackson Derrick and Blake Webb can never be discounted and will look to move to the front of the quality field of racers, as will Izzac Delaporte and Bryden Southwell, onboard his new Hyundai Excel.

Make sure you are trackside at Kalgoorlie International Speedway this Saturday evening for Round 2 of the JSRA Country Super Series with gates opening at 5pm and racing getting underway from 7pm.

If you cannot be trackside, be sure to head to the Kalgoorlie International Speedway website (http://kalgoorliespeedway.com.au/listen-live/) for Live Audio and head to the JSRA Facebook Page for live results throughout the night.
