4th March 2010: Australian Championship & Aus Vs NZ Team Challenge
HistoryOn the 29th March 2003 at Quit Motorplex Kwinana Beach WA race fans witnessed a piece Australian Speedway history and the realisation and fruition of a quiet revolution that started over thirty years ago with the beginnings of Junior Sedan racing in WA. A first ever Junior Speedway International was staged featuring 6 New Zealand Junior Drivers competing against 6 first-class Australian Junior Drivers. Initial contact was made via the internet in early 2002 when it was discovered that a thriving group of Junior Speedway drivers existed in New Zealand through the Auckland Youth Ministock Association. With a reputation for always thinking outside the square the then JSRAWA President Mr Des Alfirevich with the support of NASR began negotiation with Mr Steve Clout Chairman A Y M A. that set the path for the staging of the first ever Australasian Junior Sedan Championship and Australia Vs New Zealand Team Challenge at Quit Motorplex- introducing an International event to the junior calendar of both countries. The original communiqué went something like: J S R A WA ” If we give you some race cars to run and somewhere to stay would you like to come and have a race…” AYMANZ “Put the Jug On (Kiwi for Kettle) we’re on our way” The following year 6 Australian drivers with a touring part of 20 travelled to the Australasian Youth Ministock International hosted by Huntly Speedway, 30 minuted north from the city of Hamilton New Zealand. Seven years on the score stands at Australia 3 – New Zealand 3 and the rest as they say - is history.
This season the JSRA will once again bring 6 New Zealand Drivers (and their parents) to race at the Perth Motorplex in the Australia vs. New Zealand Challenge and the Australasian Championship in March 5th and 6th 2010
